"Utter bliss" - Sheila, stayed February 2014
There are hardly words to express the wonder of this place. It is an oasis of beauty and peace, especially after the hubbub of the towns. Rupert and Olja could not be more considerate and nothing is too much trouble. The staff are wonderful and food absolutely delicious, and presented beautifully. As an elderly woman travelling alone, I felt completely secure. I stayed in a beach side cottage, and opened my doors straight onto the beach each morning to watch the pretty fishing boats coming in and the wonderful sunsets each evening.Could lie in a hammock or on comfortable loungers, eat when I wished, or share with other guests if I wanted company. Was able to have great yoga sessions looking out to the odeon, and visit local crafts. 5* plus!
“Holiday of a lifetime” - Rachel and Dave, stayed in November 2012

This holiday exceeded all our expectations. We stayed at Marari Villas for two weeks. It was our first trip to India and we could not have asked for a better introduction to this wonderful country. Kerala is rich with culture with Hindu temples, Christian churches, museums and the beautiful backwaters.

Staying at Orchid Villa was the icing on the cake. Olga and Rupert were attentive, helpful, and great people to get to know. Shan was the house manager who organised our trips with efficiency and a calm good nature. Rajesh was a superb chef who also took us to the fish market in Alleppey and gave us a cookery lesson. His vegetable biryani was the best we have ever tasted. Benjamin was the friendly and conscientious beach attendant while Tincy and Lali made sure we returned to daily fresh sheets adorned with flowers.

The siting of the villa was ideal. It gave us privacy when required and yet allowed us to meet local people, particularly local school children. Their friendliness and curiosity was infectious! We were fortunate enough to visit the local school and tuition centre and were so impressed by the teachers and the students.

We hired a local driver through Olga and Rupert. His local and cultural knowledge was invaluable. We also used the auto rickshaws – great fun!

Other highlights (and there were many) were: massages at a local centre, a beautiful backwaters trip followed by an enormous king prawn lunch, swimming in the warm Arabian sea with not another person in sight, eating katti rolls on the private beach, and an elephant experience on the same beach.

“How India won my heart.” - Mr and Mrs Kirk, stayed in July 2012

In the last 30 years i have been avoiding India, thinking it would be to chaotic. But after i found Marari Villas i decided to have a go. And that have been the best travel experience i have had for 20 years, every thing was perfect, from the pickup at the airport, to the welcome at the villa, we instant got that feeling of being welcome. The staff was very service minded, and the feeling of that every thing could be arranged, when we licked it. The hole staff was very willing to answer all our many questions, and we had a lot.

“Complete relaxation” - Mr and Mrs Pleasance, stayed in May 21, 2012

We stayed for a week at Hibiscus cottage in May, Olga and Rupert arranged pick up from Cochin for us and we were met by Shan our wonderful host who looked after us so well, discrete and helpfull but aways available when we needed anything. The villa itself was everything we had hoped for, loved the outdoor bathroom even in the rain! The food was lovely, prepared whenever we wanted it and we managed to work our way through the entire menu! People said you will be sick of curry by the time you come home but nothing could be further from the truth due to the variety and standard of food throughout our stay in Kerala. We chose to go out in a small hand paddled boat for our trip to the backwaters allowing access to some of the smaller waterways where you see everyday life going on for the local people, fishing with lines, cooking, washing and kids messing about in the water. From the village at the top of the road you can catch the local bus into Allepey for a few pence, or if your feeling energetic the bikes at the villa are a good way to access other local villages and beaches. All the staff at Marari help to make this a totally relaxing, stress free place to get away from it all.

“Amazing experience” - Mr and Mrs Hounslow, stayed in June 2013

My husband and I stayed here as our last destination of our honeymoon. We had traveled for 8 weeks all through London, paris, rome, china and finally India. Of all the places we visited we LOVED this place and actually shed a few tears at having to leave. Olga was away when we arrived but Shan greeted us so warmly. Our stay here was just before Monsoon and we are so happy that this is when we decided to visit. Our whole honeymoon we wanted to find something that really felt like home that left us grateful , excited and this was the place. For new travellers to India New Delhi, Japar and Agra can seem so daunting but Marari Beach was like a little piece of paradise with warm friendly people where we always felt safe and they welcomed us in to share their lives for a while. Benjamin was so amazing taking us on our little tours , he was great . Such a character. The chef was always happy to cook meals which suited our needs . I can't thank him enough for this as half way through our trip on india I became quite sick and it wasn't until he cooked for us that I got better almost immediately !!! ( overnight )

The Big Six Beach Retreats in Kerala

The Independent (UK), Saturday 12 October 2013 rated Marari Villas in The Big Six: Beach Retreats in Kerala:

This collection of three serviced villas offers a home from home on a secluded beach mid-way up the Keralan coast. Ranging in size from one bedroom to three, there's a villa to suit most people. The two family cottages, Orchid and Hibiscus, each have a private pool within their walled gardens, while the larger Palm Villa opens straight on to the beach. A chef provides meals on request, but guests are also free to enjoy their own personal slice of heaven undisturbed.

“We will be back!!!” - Revital, stayed March 2013

We spent 8 days in Kerala last week out of which 3 days in Marari Villas. Location, location, location - A long strip of sandy beach, Coconut trees, fishermen, sea with warm water, we did not expect more but there was... The villas are designed so homy, and we could see the blue water from every angle of the room. Surej took care of us for 3 days and arranged for the backwaters cruize from Allepy, taxi back to Kochi, etc...We strolled with the bikes around, walked along the beach, read books...and enjoyed every minute. We sent many pictures home, now the whole family wants to come...
